"Furthermore, in Indonesia, it (the treatment of the disease) is one of the highest spending of BPJS Kesehatan (state-run Healthcare and Social Security Agency)."

Cianjur, W Java (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry and state-owned Harapan Kita Central General Hospital (RSUP) will prepare provincial hospitals in North Maluku, North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, West Papua, and West Sulawesi for providing cardiovascular disease treatment.

One of the obstacles to reducing the number of deaths from heart disease is limited treatment facilities for the disease, Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono noted at a virtual press conference on Friday.

"The (global) death rate for people with heart disease is the highest in the world. Furthermore, in Indonesia, it (the treatment of the disease) is one of the highest spending of BPJS Kesehatan (state-run Healthcare and Social Security Agency)," he informed.

He further said that Harapan Kita RSUP will provide support for the development of health human resources across Indonesia for managing cardiovascular patients.

The ministry and Harapan Kita RSUP will collaborate to gradually improve the levels of heart treatments at various provincial and district/city hospitals.

The levels of the service are intermediate, primary, and prominent.

"The intermediate-level hospitals are expected to be able to install heart ring. We are targeting all capital city to have intermediate-level hospitals, which can install heart rings," the deputy minister said.

Furthermore, the primary-level hospital should have the capability to conduct open heart surgery for more severe cases, which cannot be treated with heart ring instalments, he added.

"Our target is that each of the 36 provinces throughout Indonesia has one primary-level hospital," he stated.

Meanwhile, the prominent-level hospital should be capable of performing all cardiovascular treatments provided by Harapan Kita RSUP.

"The improvement of (heart disease treatment at) the hospitals will be conducted in an integrated, measurable, and planned program, thus it can run smoothly," Harbuwono added.

On the same occasion, cardiologist and blood vessel specialist at Harapan Kita RSUP, Hananto Andriantoro, informed that there are five provincial hospitals that are being readied to open a cardiac catheterization service (cath lab).

The government is also preparing for the establishment of heart disease treatment services at 267 district/city hospitals, he added.

Further, it is targeting to provide special allocation funds to 14 districts/cities in 2023 so that they can build cath labs at their respective regional hospitals.
